Exercise equipment can be a great way to help get you in shape.  However, this is only if the exercise equipment is actually designed to help build a sweat.  There are a number of ‘junk’ exercise equipment that won’t do anything to help you lose weight.  If you’re lucky they may build a little bit of muscle, but do you really need to spend $20 or more to achieve such things?  You can get a set of weights for less and build up muscle much faster.  And yet, people will still be swayed by junk exercise equipment, because they seem so promising.

Two examples of junk exercise equipment include the Thigh Master and an unusual device that claimed to build abdominal muscles.  Now, the Thigh Master needs no introduction… (as most know that it was a device that claimed to build the inner thigh muscles while a person was sitting or lying down).  But the other piece of exercise equipment may need more explanation, since its popularity didn’t last long.  Basically, you push this device into your stomach.  The pressure was expected to help build up your stomach muscles in just a few weeks.  You could even place the device at different settings to build up your muscles faster.  Besides looking silly the strange device didn’t do anything as far as building muscle.

And yet, there are people that will claim they got in shape using these junk forms of exercise equipment.  But think about it… did they really lose weight because of the device, or because they did other things, such as a real work out or dieting?  Additionally, are they being paid for a ‘positive’ testimonial?  Many times they are, so it’s really no use in trusting what they have to say.

So, how can a person determine whether exercise equipment is a piece of junk or whether it is something worthwhile?  Well, go to your local gym.  If the exercise equipment is there, chances are it will work.  Examples of legitimate exercise equipment include treadmills, exercise bikes and weight lifting machines.  All of these are available for home use, even if they are a bit more expensive than the junk exercise equipment that are out there.
